RABBI ISRAEL-MEIR LAU

THE PRACTICE OF JUDAISM IN THE LIGHT OF THE ORAL TORAH.

Saturday.

"Memory of the work of creation"

Justification for the very institution of the Sabbath is already given in the Ten Commandments: "For six days the L-rd built heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day - therefore, the L-rd blessed the seventh day and sanctified it." And this justification, based on the story of the Torah itself about the creation of the world, emphasizes the role of the Sabbath in the testimony of the creation of the world by the Most High. Therefore, the Sabbath is “the memory of the work of Creation” and the cornerstone of monotheism.

By stopping work before Saturday, we thereby demonstrate to the whole world that we are following the path of the Creator: after completing all the work of creating the world for six weekdays, “on the seventh day, he stopped all his work that he had created,” and we do the same .http: //chassidus.ru/library/lau/zecher_lemaase_bereyshis.htm
