Good afternoon friends!

Summary of the chapter "Ree"

Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17

"Look," Moshe says to the people of Israel, "I offer you a blessing and a curse today." A blessing that will follow as a reward for fulfilling the commandments of the Almighty, and a curse if they are violated. These blessings and curses are to be proclaimed on Mount Gerizim and on Mount Ebal when the Jews enter the Holy Land.

"In the place that the Lord will choose to set his name there," the Temple is to be erected. And only in it, and not in any other place, people will have to offer sacrifices to G-d.

False prophets, as well as those who seduce others to idolatry, should be punished by death. A city that is wholly devoted to the worship of idols must be destroyed.

The signs of kosherness of animals and fish are repeated again, and non-kosher bird species are listed.

A tenth part of the harvest the farmer must bring to Jerusalem and eat there or sell, and with the proceeds buy food, which must also be eaten in Jerusalem. In certain years, the same tithe should be given to the poor instead. The firstborn of cattle and small ruminants must be brought to the Temple so that the kohanim eat their meat.

The commandment of charity obliges a Jew to help a fellow in need with alms or a loan. In the Sabbath year (which comes once every seven years) all debts must be forgiven. Jewish slaves must be set free after six years of service.

The chapter ends with a listing of the laws of the three pilgrimage holidays - Pesach, Shavuot and Sukkot - when everyone must appear before G-d in the Holy Temple.
